Best Indie of 2011

Perry Crowe, Editor

One of my favorite parts about editing the Indie section at Kirkus is the amazing variety. We see every genre you can imagine-and some you probably never thought of (need to brush up on goat production, anyone?). Out of this menagerie (in alphabetical order) come the Best of Indie, books that caught our eye or blew our mind or touched our heart, some even earning Kirkus stars.
We've highlighted a book in each of the major categories (Fiction, Nonfiction, Children, Teen and Poetry) in the Indie features in the left column of this page, plus we've sliced and diced subjects and genres to create some additional reading lists to tempt your palette. We think you'll find some great books here, whether they entertain, educate, provoke or console, so it's our pleasure to present the Best of Indie 2011.
