by David Dodge ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 6, 1951
A sequel to How Green Was My Father, How Lost Was My Weekend, and the Crazy Glasserker this returns to Arequipa where the Dodges' break up housekeeping and embark on nine months of perpetual motion, in search of a place to live which will provide a good school for Kendal, peaceful politics and a favorable deal on the dollar. They take a boat trip down the Amazon (an odyssey of considerable discomfort), to the Brazilian Coast, go to Rio (spectacular and spectacularly expensive), Montevideo, and B.A., on to Chile and back to Arequipa where they pack up for good, and finally set off for the French Riviera via the Canary Islands and Lisbon. Kendal, now nine, and her cicerone- Carmen, Elva, a monkey, a parrot, all brighten this itinerary and Dodge, a fast hand at beating the exchange, will show you how to cruise around cheaply. A brassy bounce to all of this.
