Nobody wants to see Dr. Green. Not Duck, not Horse, not Cockatoo. Rocky Dachshund is just as reluctant, but he's also curious and investigates a mysterious wailing he hears from down the hall. It's Dr. Green himself; it's not quite clear why this (male!) cow is crying, but Rocky has the solution, and by agreeing to an examination, he both cheers up the doleful pediatrician and reassures the other children who are waiting. As a conventional book addressing doctor anxiety, this is only so-so; as a board book—a format aimed at babies and toddlers—it is a disaster. The illustrations are too small and busy, and the narrative is downright murky. While there is a moment or two of clever wordplay, this effort is a fatal mismatch of form to audience. Next, please.
