A ragtag army of creatures from outer space is headed this way, bent on conquering the Earth! Beginning with the admiral, who’s bright green and has ears like trumpets, readers meet a slew of funny aliens, all described in snappy verse. Many have extra eyes and bumpy bodies, but they look more inept than scary. A two-page spread shows their weird table manners and weirder cuisine. How is our planet saved? A mirrored page, which should delight readers, shows what scares the aliens away. McNaughton comes up with an entertaining variety of quirky creatures, rendered in line-and-watercolor cartoons, and the book itself has an offbeat round shape. But with almost no plot, it seems more like the prologue for an upcoming adventure than a stand-alone story. (Picture book. 3-6)
