Toddler Claydon feels safer clinging to his mother’s leg even when she’s skateboarding or playing rugby. His teddy bear, which clings to Claydon’s leg, points out as nicely as possible while they are all skydiving that Mummy is a maniac. Claydon does let go when they have a small accident on mom’s mountain bike. He happily rides his tricycle instead of clinging. His teddy is content, too, until Claydon proves he’s inherited his mother’s love of extreme sports by cycling down the nearest slide. A hilariously absurd look at the fear of independence, this British import will be a big hit at storytime. The jittery, jiggly watercolor illustrations pull and swirl the text along. A fear of copycat toddler Knievels shouldn’t keep anyone from purchasing this sturdy paperback original. (Picture book. 3-6)
