An arsonist has been targeting cities across Canada. Now it’s Calgary’s turn.

Kate Carpenter, house manager for the Centenary Theater (Flirting With Disaster, 2005, etc.), is searching frantically for a house to replace her beloved apartment. Her significant other, Cam, and their long-suffering real-estate agent have almost given up. In a last attempt to get Kate to move, Cam buys a former firehouse and swears to make it into the perfect home. Because the mother of Kate’s assistant Graham Becker has just died, the fires popping up around town barely register on her radar until there’s one in the theater. She suspects Graham when she finds lighter fluid in his backpack, and when her father, a former firefighter, comes to town, she begins to wonder how he can afford his fancy new fishing lodge. While Cam and his friends are working to get the firehouse upgraded, Kate is stalked by a man who demands she set up a meeting with her father, and pestered by ambitious investigative reporter Geneva Arnold, who’s made the arson case her personal crusade. When Kate’s attempt to set up the arsonist for the police backfires, she and her dad are caught in a blast at her old building. Cam discovers the arsonist’s identity, but tragedy strikes as he attempts to avenge Kate.

Another tale of mercurial Kate’s adventures and love life with just a hint of mystery.
