The friendliest and smartest golden retriever on the planet is ready for his next detective mystery, exuberantly jumping in with all paws to discover who pulled the school fire alarm. Buddy, detective dog extraordinaire, is thrilled to become the "therapy dog" at his boy Connor's school when Connor's mom takes him with her to work there. Buddy likes his new job so much that he swears off mysteries until the fire alarm frightens everyone out of the school. Yet there's no fire: Who pulled the alarm? Three very different students might be the culprit. Buddy tracks down clues that help young readers unravel the mystery. Even if Buddy can't communicate with humans as well as he'd like, he feels victorious when the mystery is solved. Buddy has plenty of his animal friends in the neighborhood, and his enthusiasm for every activity and food item he encounters is manifest: Each and every one is his "favorite." Tugeau's sweet line drawings bring Buddy and friends to life, while Butler keeps the story entertaining and sometimes suspenseful. A solid addition to the series. (Mystery. 6-9)
