Bright, cheery drawings are of primary appeal in this simple story. A mother duck wakes her four ducklings on a sunny morning and asks them what they would like to do. The littlest duckling suggests swimming in the pond and everyone agrees. They traipse off to the pond through the woods and the wildflower meadow; a pleasant, small adventure for the curious littlest duckling is followed by the safe return home for all. Herman (What a Hungry Puppy!, 1993, not reviewed, etc.) writes with simplicity, but most of the story takes place in Schweninger's pictures, from the snug morning scenes to the last ``Good night.'' It's a reassuring story of family togetherness that will be most appreciated by preschoolers. (Picture book. 4-6)
