KIRKUS REVIEW

A girl and her doll are sick in bed. Betty was fine yesterday when friends came over, but now she’s too ill to go out. Girl and doll imagine the things they could do this day: go to the fair or hunt lions with dad, for instance. The doctor arrives and the next morning the girl and Betty—the doll—feel better. British author and illustrator Clarke’s sunny illustrations of Betty and her owner are the real draw here. They’re full of visual jokes, as in their imagined trip to the fair: the girl has just won a prize at the ball-toss booth and in the background the game’s proprietor is getting his head bandaged. An excellent cure for those under the weather and a great addition to story times on colds or imagination. This first American edition is well worth the price of a sturdy paperback.
