KIRKUS REVIEW

Concluding volume of the Obernewtyn Chronicles, first published (by Viking Penguin) in 1995 in Australia. In Obernewtyn (1999/1987), Carmody leads us into the years following the Great White nuclear holocaust and tells of the Mutant Orphan Elspeth Gordie, a telepath who can hear human thought and also beastspeak. In The Farseekers (2000/1995), Elspeth and her fellow Misfits take over the mountain fastness Obernewtyn and build a society of psychics. And in this final outing Elspeth must look into the Beforetimes and study the bedrock of her dreams. Only then can she hope to unite the Misfits with the beastspeakers and overthrow the dreaded Council. Told in sober, clear printspeak, a splinter tongue of strokekey.
