In this boisterous alternative to Peter’s Chair and similar domestic tempests, Billy indignantly responds to having little brother Eric’s crib moved into his room by looking for digs he can claim for his own. But all of his choices—bathroom, garden shed, even a parental lap—have to be shared too. Billy and his family may be standard character types, but in spacious, freely drawn watercolors, Fearnley creates something of a subtext by casting them as a notably diverse set of house cats, and harmony is restored at the end when Eric introduces Billy to the pleasures of tandem bed-jumping. A lightweight take on a common family change. (Picture book. 5-7)
