KIRKUS REVIEW

The creative team from Dear Bunny (2006) pairs up again for another story about written communications that go astray. In this sequel, two rabbit friends each compose a Christmas wish list, asking for a few sensible items such as food and warm clothing. They conceal their lists in a hollow log that is supposed to be the neighborhood post office (though it isn’t specified for whom the lists are intended). As in the first story, a group of playful mice appropriate the lists and use the paper to make kites, sleds, telescopes and paper hats. The mouse parents try to rectify the situation by using torn bits of the lists to spell out a new message for the rabbits hung on a decorated Christmas tree outside their burrow. This rewritten message spells out the love and best wishes of the mouse neighbors for their rabbit friends. Church’s collage illustrations in an oversized format use lots of texture and varied surfaces to enhance the outdoor scenes with the rabbits and mice. The text is set in a font that suggests hand-written printing, complementing the series theme. (Picture book. 3-6)
