Always late and in a rush, poor disorganized Lucy loses everything from her shoes and books, to her homework, school snack and jacket. When she loses her temper after being scolded by her exasperated mother (and consequently losing some playtime to a timeout in her room), Lucy explores beneath her bed to find most things she has been missing. But her disorganization continues as she absentmindedly leaves the door open allowing the family dog to run out and in the course of searching for him finds not just her favorite pet, but a new friend and the resolve to “take the time to find, not lose!” Doughty’s signature childlike cartoonish mixed-media drawings in colored paints and ink humorously illustrate the simple rhyming text. Guileless and appealing for the disorganized youngster in us all. (Picture book. 3-6)
