KIRKUS REVIEW

A beautifully sweet look at how babies are carried, from insects and birds, to mammals and fish, and ultimately to how your own mother carried you. The first half of the text focuses on opposites, while the second portion highlights similarities. Giant anteaters carry their babies on their backs, while baboon babies cling to their moms’ bellies. Coyotes, American alligators, and African Cichlids (a fish) all use their mouths to carry their young. While the pictures are not labeled, a two-page afterword shows a thumbnail of the illustration and lists the animals featured as well as where they live. A bibliography is also included. The illustrations are perfect for young readers. Featuring simple lines and vibrant colors, they complement the text by focusing on the interaction between the parent and child. Sure to become a calm and soothing bedtime favorite. (Nonfiction. 2-5)
