IRISH FAIRY TALES AND LEGENDS

A collection of ten Irish stories filled with magic, heroism, cleverness, romance, humor, and only a few leprechauns. Included are famous stories like ""The Children of Lir"" and ""TÁr Na N-g,"" a variation of the King Midas story, and several stories about Fionn MacCumhail (a.k.a. Finn McCool), such as the familiar ""Giant's Causeway."" Leavy spins her tales with the cadence and rhythms of an accomplished storyteller; she includes explanatory notes about each story and a pronunciation guide. Field's illustrations are enchanting--richly colored, but with an innocence that matches the disarming charm of the tales.
