Does Your Book Need Exposure?
Do You Want to Be Discovered?

• The Kirkus Discoveries program gives independently published authors a chance to obtain an unbiased, professional review of their work, written in the same format as a traditional Kirkus review. Book reviews are an essential and valuable tool for promoting books to literary agents, traditional publishing houses, booksellers and, most importantly, potential readers.

NOTE: Kirkus Reviews and Kirkus Discoveries are separate book-review services. Kirkus Reviews does not charge for reviews. For more information about the difference between the two, contact Beth Werner at beth.werner@kirkusreviews.com.

Discoveries maintains a panel of experienced reviewers who specialize in certain fields, including novels, short-story collections, poetry, children’s and young-adult books, nonfiction, and more. Each field of reviewers is segmented into genre specialties: crime, romance, sci fi, drama or comedy for fiction; educational vs. entertainment books for children and young adults; history, science, nature, military, memoirs for nonfiction; reference, self-help, textbooks, etc. The idea behind this system is to have your book reviewed by a qualified reader who can give a fair and honest assessment of its value potential in the marketplace.

•  As with Kirkus Reviews, though all our reviewers are experienced professionals, not all Discoveries reviews are glowing. Kirkus Discoveries is a caveat emptor service that gives honest, impartial evaluations of the titles we receive. The resulting reviews can be positive, negative or anywhere in between.

•  By upholding Kirkus’ highly trusted and respected standards of editorial quality, you are assured that an enthusiastic review from Discoveries is meaningful in the literary community. Our strict policy of anonymous reviews also promises a fair and unbiased assessment of your work.

• Once you receive your review in PDF form, you can opt to have it published on this website. This promises excellent exposure for your book as this site is frequently visited by an audience of librarians, publishers, agents, book sellers and entertainment media (film and TV) professionals. Posting to the website is FREE of charge.

• Authors often use Discoveries reviews in marketing and advertising materials, quoting positive reviews either in their entirety or excerpts. As little as five words from Kirkus Discoveries can mean a powerful boost in sales on amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. KD quotes are also valuable as promotional copy for opening pages of your book or on the jacket cover.

• If for any reason your review is less than flattering, no one needs to know that the review was ever done. Your review will not be published or posted without your permission. You can move on with other marketing/advertising options without concern of embarrassment or negative impact on your book.

• Each month the Discoveries Editor selects the top 8-10 reviews for inclusion in the Discoveries e-letter, to highlight best submissions. The e-letter is a powerful vehicle that showcases new titles and talent that deserve attention in the marketplace. The e-letter reaches an audience of agents, publishers, sellers and readers, maximizing exposure for your book and boosting credibility for your name and your work. Your review will only be featured with your permission. Being included is FREE of charge.
