An animated series based on E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web is coming next month, People magazine reports.

HBO Max will air the three-part limited series in October. News of the series was first announced in 2022.

White’s enduring children’s novel, illustrated by Garth Williams and published in 1952 by Harper & Brothers, follows the friendship between Charlotte, a barn spider, and Wilbur, a pig who is set to be slaughtered. “The whole tenor of appealing wit and pathos will make fine entertainment for reading aloud,” a critic for Kirkus wrote of the book.

The series adaptation will feature the voices of Amy Adams (American Hustle, Vice) as Charlotte and Elijah Wood (Sin City, The Lord of the Rings) as adult Wilbur. Other cast members include Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Randall Park (Aquaman), Rosario Dawson (He Got Game), Jean Smart (Hacks), and Griffin Robert Faulkner (It Comes at Night).

The series is directed by Yurie Rocha (Sesame Street Mecha Builders), with Luke Matheny (Maron) serving as showrunner.

“To be asked to adapt E.B. White’s masterpiece was both thrilling and daunting,” Matheny told People. “Thankfully, every writer, animator, actor and producer rose to the occasion—and nobody more than the brilliant Amy Adams, whose Charlotte is one for the ages. And yes, many of us cried along the way—but if you’re not crying while making Charlotte’s Web, you’re probably not doing it right.”

Charlotte’s Web is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on October 2.
