It’s been less than two weeks since New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani shocked the country by dominating the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City, but there’s already a book about his unexpected victory on the horizon, the New York Post reports.

OR Books will publish journalist Theodore Hamm’s Run Zohran Run!: Inside Zohran Mamdani’s Sensational Campaign To Become New York City’s First Democratic Socialist Mayor in the fall. It says the book is “grounded in firsthand knowledge of an insurgent campaign.”

Mamdani announced his bid for New York mayor last October and was initially seen as a longshot. A 33-year-old democratic socialist, he focused his campaign on affordability, proposing free city buses, rent freezes, and a higher minimum wage.

Last month, he stunned the political establishment in the first round of ranked-choice voting, beating Gov. Andrew Cuomo by more than 70,000 votes. He officially won the primary on Tuesday with 56% of the vote. In the November general election, he will face Republican Curtis Sliwa as well as Cuomo and current Mayor Eric Adams, both running as independents.

“As fast-paced and compelling as its subject, Run Zohran Run! reveals how a charismatic candidate and a vibrant grassroots campaign ended a New York dynasty and set the stage for the first democratic socialist mayor,” OR says of Hamm’s book, which will be published on October 14.
