The National Book Awards has revealed its poetry longlist, with 10 titles contending for the literary prize.
Rowan Ricardo Phillips made the longlist for Silver. Phillips was previously nominated for the award in 2015 for his collection Heaven.
Diane Seuss, who has previously won the Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Critics Circle for frank: sonnets, was named an NBA finalist for Modern Poetry. Gregory Pardlo, another past Pulitzer winner, made the longlist for Spectral Evidence.
Anne Carson was longlisted for Wrong Norma, alongside Fady Joudah for [...], Dorianne Laux for Life on Earth, and Octavio Quintanilla for The Book of Wounded Sparrows.
Lena Khalaf Tuffaha was named a finalist for Something About Living, as were m.s. RedCherries for mother and Elizabeth Willis for Liontaming in America.
The judges for this year’s prize are Richard Blanco, Carolyn Forché, Tyehimba Jess, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and Rena Priest.
The longlist will be narrowed down into a shortlist, which will be revealed on Oct. 1. The winner will be announced at a ceremony at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street on Nov. 20.
