Good news, rom-com fans: You haven’t seen the last of Alex and Henry.

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue, its hit film based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, Deadline reports.

McQuiston’s book, published in 2019 by St. Martin’s Griffin, tells the story of the romance between Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of an American president, and Prince Henry of England. The two initially hate each other but fall in love after being forced to pretend they are friends. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus praised the novel as “a clever, romantic, sexy love story.”

Amazon’s film based on the novel, directed by Matthew López and starring Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, was released last year. Kirkus writer David Rapp was unimpressed with the adaptation, writing that “neither of the main characters comes across as particularly complex” and calling Galitzine’s performance “steadfastly bland.”

Perez and Galitzine will reprise their roles in the sequel, which will be written by López and McQuiston. No details on the plot have been made available.

López confirmed the news of the sequel on Instagram, sharing a graphic for the film and the caption, “Sequel, huh? Bet we could make one.”
