Cutler's book is a lewd, boisterously smutty, funny, observant Washington tell-all. Reader Dia Shepardson injects her narration with a wild and woolly devil-may-care abandonment, and a dizzying pace that keeps up with the amorous adventures of Washington intern Jacqueline Turner, whose nightlife supersedes her activities on the Hill. Shepardson slows down a bit to coyly but cynically show Jackie's decision to put it all out there in a blog, which scandalizes the Capitol gang, gets her fired, and ostracized. However, it also makes her a media darling with a book offer. If this sounds familiar, it's because the author blogged her sexual exploits last year and ended up in the same sweet spot as her heroine.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
