This was published originally in (see report p. 681) and has now been revised, brought up to date and provided with numerous illustrations, charts and maps -- and an index. In view of the tremendous growth of U.N. agencies, the development of their functions, and the increased popular interest in what the U.N. stands for, this revision will be widely accepted as virtually a new book. Too often the multiplicity of U.N. activities is ignored in the impression that what reaches the headlines is the U.N. in action. This book helps dispel that impression.
