This Canadian author's variety of interests, from dogs to owls to the Arctic and Eskimos, is expanded to the history of a 1948 maritime survival episode and his account of the (all Libertys) and other ships, in the three hurricanes of the fail of that year is a rousing one. When the had to be in the first hurricane, Josephine and Lillian had the almost hopeless job of finding her, towing her to Bermuda and then, after repairs, getting her back to the U. S. With other vessels looking for salvage, it was a race to reach the with the second hurricane dogging the passage to Bermuda, the third hurricane which them there was just about too much particularly since the suffered extensive damage in it. But, with men that would not let a ship die, and with the tireless determination of Fentstone of Foundation Maritime, both were saved. A vigorous treatment of men (Newfoundland men especially), ships and storms, of rescue and repair work, and of the sen, makes this exciting, salt sprayed reading.
