No man who writes to help the preacher today does so more perceptively and persuasively than Dr. Roy Pearson, dean of Andover Newton Theological School. Unlike some of the teachers of preaching in our Protestant Theological Seminaries, he is a good and effective preacher himself -- one who believes that preaching is not something for the minister to do as well as he can,-consistent with the performance of other more important and exacting duties, but rather as one of the chief means by which the Gospel is related to man and man to God. It requires much effort, but the result of neglect is deadly both for the Gospel as well as for the Church. The power, purpose and place of preaching, the use of the Bible, choice of ideas, preparation of material and delivery all receive careful attention. Protestant ministers and seminary students need to read this book for their admonition, learning and improvement.
