In an ingenious take on I Spy tales and the like, this collection of brain teasers requires readers to spot seven differences between two photographs. Corresponding to the two-page spreads are clever riddles to solve—the clues to which lie within the photographs. While the overall theme of the challenges is animal related, each spread focuses on a particular wildlife scenario. The spreads have tantalizingly quirky labels that compel readers to take a closer look, such as “In the Bamboo Jungle,” which features a bevy of panda and tiger figurines climbing bamboo, or the arctic themed “An Ice Day” depicting a bevy of penguins congregating on a pristine landscape. Kidslabel presents readers with challenging material; many of the differences are delicate nuances that are revealed only through thoughtful study. The photography is crisp and vibrant, offering an engrossing array of landscapes, alternating between extreme close-up, detailed images and equally intriguing sparser layouts. The word riddles also provide a stimulating challenge. However, stymied adults and readers need not despair, as an answer ledger has been included in the end pages. (Picture book. 6-10)
