Based on Catherine Stern's many years of experience as Director of the Castle School, this levels off the too progressive attitudes which earlier in this ""century of the child"" allowed a dangerous latitude, applies her method of ""education through insight"" which appeals to the child's power of reasoning and comprehension. The general principles and procedures of this more sweetly reasonable type of guidance is shown, as standards- appropriate to the age- are set up, as the child is correctly prepared for the situation to come, as he is allowed freedom of choice, and attains security through success. In the second section, case studies illustrate the method in relation to the poor sleeper, the poor eater, the timid child- or the tyrant, and the slow learner.... For parents of the pre-school child, and perhaps even more for teachers in this field.
