KIRKUS REVIEW

Was Manny Square killed by the kick of his mule ? Most of Deer Lick County, Kentucky, thought so, but the local sheriff went quietly about his investigations, and proved it to be murder. Bit by bit, the clues are traced to their source. Good yarn, a bit too meticulous in details to absorb the interest, but readers who like the inductive method will find this a good one. Too bad the jacket reveals so much.
