First rate yarn of maritime adventure in a story of modern whaling in the Antarctic. Just as the expedition, consisting of one large vessel and a number of small vessels is due to turn home, the catch completed, the main vessel burns. The story is a good 'un up to that point, with factual description of whaling and life on these little vessels. From this point, it becomes possibly a trifle melodramatic, as one of the small boats, with increase in crew and engines that sadly needed the repair shops of the burned vessel, fought against terrific odds on the homeward passage -- and won.
