This is the third in the 14 volume Man through his Art series sponsored by the World Confederation of Organizations of the Teaching Profession. Volume 1, War and Peace, was reviewed in 1964, p. 1051-J349. The 20 color plates of works ranging from pre-history to Braques, and covering many different cultures and territories, are supported by numerous black and white photographs and a text which describes their historical and technical qualities and relates them to the varying social attitudes and mankind's dependence on animals. The specialized viewpoint makes the book an intriguing social studies and art history supplement, although unwieldy as a direct source of information.
