This collection, one of established excellence, includes short stories by Margaret Laurence, Frank O'Connor, V. S. Pritchett, Muriel Spark, Frank Tuohy, Alan Sillitoe, and, surprisingly one by Malcolm Lowry. Seven of the ten stories have had previous magazine publication, five of them in quality American magazines (the New Yorker, Encounter, etc.) which is an additional commentary in itself.
