KIRKUS REVIEW

Translated from the old Chinese story, this is a tale of love, sorcery, and conflict of devotion. Strongly reminiscent of the classic, The Dream of the Red Chamber, the story speaks of two lovers, a white snake and a young boy, whose affection survives the radical physical transformations of the serpent, the admonitions of the monks, and, ultimately, death. Colorful and touching, as a romantic tale, The Legend of the White Serpent is an enticing invitation to the young reader to explore further Oriental literature.
