KIRKUS REVIEW

Mr. Gefter is a refugee writer who lived through the revolution -- and writes of it here, in semi-fictional form. The book has no distinct plot, but is rather a generalized picture of the revolution based on what he personally witnessed. It is none the less a fair-minded book, showing the effects of deprivation and strife on the people in northern Russia, and the eventual victory of the Red Army. Written with ease and perception.
