WE LANDED AT DAWN

By

Publisher: Harcourt, Brace

In sharp contrast to the emotional content of Quentin Reynolds' : Dress (see report page 25), this seems almost bald. For straight information and factual news value, some may prefer this. Personally, I confess that I read war records, in book form, for the sense of atmosphere, personalities, mood and tempo, and stick to newspapers for the news reports, so my pick of these two books would be the Reynolds. Austin, however, has the advantage in having gone ashore with the landing forces; prior to that, of having trained in advance. He was assigned first to the Scotch Arg, assault infantry, during their training period, and is sold on the """" as the of any operation. Then with the Canadian Royals and with the Commands he cover the invasion itself, reporting on allied operations on land, sea and in the air. personal material, the coverage is largely what happened, the expensive attainment of an objective and the lessons it taught.
