BEFORE THE CONQUERORS

The sub-title reads: Modern Adventure in the Land of the Incas, but this book -- if sold as fiction -- would disappoint any boy looking for straight adventure. Under a thin guise of story, it is actually a book about modern archeological investigations in Central and South America. There is a fund of interesting and stimulating information -- but the sugar-coating hurts the tone of authenticity, and -- for the youngster sincerely interested in the subject -- I'd suggest Digging in Yucatan by Ann Axtel Morris as infinitely better.
