THE SUBMARINE AT WAR by A. M. Low

THE SUBMARINE AT WAR

By

Pub Date: May 28th, 1942
Publisher: Sheridan House

A very general book about the subject, -- the history of the submarine, scientific facts about it, its uses, its future --clear and direct in handling, but uninspired. The early beginnings -- through Robert Fulton -- the Civil War -- the turn of the century, when it proved itself. Construction, crew, routine of the ""most dangerous trade in the world""; anti-submarine weapons; true episodes of submarine disaster and achievements in war and peace. Finally conjectures as to the future and the dubious possibilities of cargo subs, etc. This supplements the material in Take Her Down (by Com. Thompson --see report Page 196), bringing it more up to date, and covering more aspects of the subject. But -- of necessity, neither book can actually make the sub today as dramatic as history itself is doing.
