PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE

By

Publisher: Meridian

This anthology of specialized writings by 23 philosophers and scientists is a survey of sharply limited appeal that will be used as supplementary reading in philosophy courses concerned with some of the basic problems of science. This collection makes clear that a distinction must be drawn between discussing philosophical problems of science and the problems philosophers have discussing science, since, for the most part, it deals with logical, semantic and epistemological problems that most scientists do not usually worry about. Of its three parts (Space, Time and Casuality) the third is the most meaningful, the majority of its papers being by scientists, and its terminating one being a clear historico-analytic discussion of the modern quantum perspective by N. R. Hanson whose philosophic arguments are properly anchored in a scientific perspective.
