HOME HANDICRAFT FOR GIRLS

I was afraid this was going to be just another how-to-do book which whould encourage the making of useless ""giftees"". Instead, the processes are linked closely with the needs of the home, from the accessories of a girl's own room, on through the practical needs of the house that a girl can fill. The emphasis is definitely on the aspects of the home that appeal to daughters. From that rather altruistic slant, the shift to the personal is a natural one. (This is, however, the least successful chapter in the book-- it seems a bit along the old dust collector line.) Then parties, special occasions, special functions,- ideas for entertainments, for gifts, what to do, what to serve. The sections on indoor and outdoor gardening are unique in a book of this type, and whet the appetite for more. Marionettes, doll bungalow, Christmas cards and photography complete the pattern of one of the best handicraft books I have seen. The bibliographies at the close of each section are a valuable asset.
