In the Burmese jungle there are many dangers: monsoon and flood, dacoits (bandits), and most menacing of all- the foam-flecked fury of an enraged elephant. Bondhook, a big tusker, the special custody of Ma Thi O, a Burmese boy, is believed to have gone rogue, injures his friend and makes off into the jungle with the money boxes on his back. Ma Thi O is determined not only to find him but to save him (a rogue elephant is automatically sentenced to death), and so he does. Bondhook is reprieved..... A very fine merger of authentic fact and sound fiction, with highly effective woodcut illustrations.
