Subtitled An Account of the Organization and Operations in France, translated, edited and with an introduction by Willmoore Kendall. Valuable primarily as case history of communism functioning, on the surface and underground, in one country where the party has played a significant role. It is not easy reading. The author- and editor- assume perhaps more intimacy with the French governmental procedure than most American readers possess. Too bad the introduction is not specifically directed to this need; frankly I found the introduction a thing almost wholly apart from the text proper, and for that reason somewhat misleading...The text reviews the status of Communism in France- before the war; during the armistice; right about change when Russia was attacked; action on the trade union, the underground, the political and military, the youth fronts, etc. A student of politics would find it invaluable.
