The increasing use of heathers and their kin for rock gardens, banks, and trouble spots makes this book very timely. The author is a British authority -- and has words of encouragement for those who have found experiments in growing heaths and heathers disappointing. He goes into their habits and distribution, their value for various sites- and which species are most adaptable. He discusses kind of soil and exposure, cultivation and propagation. Several chapters are devoted specifically to species and varieties (Caliuna and Erica) and some allied shrubs, trees and shrubs to combine with heath gardens, etc.
