SHOWBOAT'S COMING!

Light romance cum dramatics unfolds itself on a summer cruise on the Ohio River which a group of drama students from Balfour College take on Cap'n Jesse Tate's modern showboat Dolphin. Principal characters include Lois, a first year student who is more interested in costuming and production than acting, and Ned, a born actor who wants to be a historian. Ned and Lois are also quite interested in each other. But the path of true love does not run smoothly and several incidents- the productions themselves, the flirtations of Winnie, the disrupting actions of an irascible engineer, the capture of thieves, etc.- intervene before Ned and Lois get together and really understand each other. The narrative is bursting with repartee and if one likes a sustained mood of joking and being at one's best, at least in books, the reading is pleasant.
