DR. MOORE'S LEGACY

Dr. Moore (he of The Town and Dr. Moore -- oh go on, you/1973 remember) is still around the town of Haddon, Vermont even if he's not practicing -- but troubled, so troubled, about the new medicine like heart transplants and the ethical question of what should be done versus what can be done. And to whom? who should get the first available one -- an aged U.S. Senator or a young woman, an aphasiac, whose husband, also a doctor, can't communicate at all with her. There are other really terminal issues -- abortion, suicide, euthanasia -- Dr. Moore's wife is dying of cancer -- on which Miss Young casts her humane countenance but when all is said and done it's still soap opera, Phisohex soap opera.
