Once upon a time and not too unhappily there were firm fathers and dutiful daughters and Tonis is one of Rosted the coachmaker's four girls. She gives him trouble (as does his youngest, only boy Peter who finally runs away) when she decides not to weave or take piano lessons but study with actor Eggers since she's stagestricken. She manages to do so for a time, until Eggers is a cholera epidemic casualty, then goes on to eventually prove she has real talent--playing the part of Puck. . . . The remove of time and place (Norway) makes this seem that the stardust won't quite dissipate--and certainly it's handled with a very pleasant touch.
