THE PHOENIX CHILD: A Story of Love
by ‧RELEASE DATE: Oct. 24, 1975
Henry Viscardi who has been working with and for handicapped people of all kinds (cf., his previous books on this list) through his Human Resources Center now records the story of one child, Daren Dillard, born with no left eye, no ear and a cleft palate to a black mother on welfare. She left him behind in the hospital and after some later rehabilitative surgery, Viscardi chose him as one of the few children to live in a residence on Long Island affiliated with his other project. There he became the special and much loved charge of a Hofstra student, Stephanie, and after the residence burned down Stephanie took him to her home for a while which, fortunately, became for keeps. Simply, very simply told, with an abiding appeal.
