YOUR DAY IN THE BARREL

Introducing a new writer and a new series from that ""alternate culture"" of the Sixties--a Rolling Stone who gathers no moss but deals in all kinds of grass and acid under a number of names and both Canadian and US passports to give him a certain immunity. With him, some of the time, is his girl and her baby in her ""silent majority uniform,"" a wig and a white blouse. He's picked up in Pennsylvania and let go--in order to bring back dead his connection, one Anthony Villegas, particularly wanted by the CIA as a Chicano organizer. As a gesture, they drop another body on a lawn in Arlington and from then on it's here, there and nowhere, ""running in single gear"" which can only be high. No more orthodox as a mystery, but quite a pace- and scene-setter with an entertaining ""fucking chic"" idiom.
