PILOT PETE

An animal story of a porpoise who played tricks on an antarctic whaling fleet is a little on the slapstick side and though pleasant, proves Mr. Villiers is better at straight rather than fanciful sea fare. Pilot Pete (porpoises have been known to pilot ships through bad spots) tells all the whales to go and hide in one bay, then deludes the ships by repeatedly guiding them to another. Finally, he wins the fleet's admiration when he saves them from a storm- which is rather a non-sequitur to their unsuccessful season.
