CLARA BARTON, RED CROSS PIONEER

A simple biography of Clara Barton by a frequent contributor to this series (see Christopher Columbus, Discoverer; La Salle, River Explorer, etc.) telescopes the events of a revolutionary life and presents them in easily digestible form. The coverage of Clara Barton's activities from the earliest instincts for nursing, through the Civil War and on to her part in the Red Cross, is fairly complete. But the concentration has dried the narrative and we are wondering whether children who can read and ask questions won't want a longer book about her.
