CARL GOES SHOPPING

The sleek, benevolent Rottweiler who took such good care of the baby at home in Good Dog, Carl (1985) has another babysitting adventure with his young charge--this time, when Mom leaves them at the bottom of the escalator while she goes to pick up some curtains. Carl gets the baby out of her carriage and onto his back so that they can explore--toys, where baby gets a truck ride: books, where she looks at Rottweilers I Have Known; hats, carpets, food, and pets, each with an entertaining activity to offer--before they make it back to the carriage, just as Mom returns. The bright, tactile, beguilingly realistic illustrations in this almost wordless book make it all seem surprisingly plausible.
