Biography of the man whose life is perhaps the complete expression of the chivalric ideal. In view of the glamorous possibilities of the material, this is almost too restrained. The author draws on only the most reliable sources, never dramatizes or conjectures, scarcely even plays up high spots. For the most part, a detailed chronicle of the times, excellent material on court figures. Little space given to characterization or interpretation of the man, and therefore more an Elizabethan record than a biography of Sidney. Sober -- well documented. Good reference material.
