OLIVER HAZARD PERRY

Here is a biography of one of America's best known naval heroes, whose lif was singularly lacking in incident outside the training of a naval officer in the days o the infant republic, and of the building of a tiny navy, culminating with the decisive defeat of the British on Lake in 1812. And yet the biographer has succeeded in making the subject interesting, from the boyhood, when he was imbued with fervor for a protective navy by his father, Captain Perry, through his appointment as midshipman at 1, fifteen years of increasing responsibility and absorption of naval theory, the heartbreaking efforts to prepare against England -- and Lake Erie....Good reference and supplementary material, though uninspired in style.
